Our Sicilian Roots
The island of Sicily is the largest in the Mediterranean and has a population of about 5 million people. Our Sicilian roots originated here in the city of Favara, province of Agrigento. It is about a two and half hour mesmerizing drive from either airport of Palermo or Catania. Passing rolling hills, small towns and villages with vineyards, olive groves and sea views en route.
Every time I visit, we search for the famous Sicilian arancini (little oranges). This trip, my favorite one was traditionally filled, topped whipped ricotta dollop and a pistachio dusting, amazing! Even the airports and gas stations make a damn good one.
Sicily is so different from the rest of Italy for so many reasons and I am here for all of them. It’s simple living off of the land, limited tourists, amazing sea views and marinas, and deserted beaches. It is much of an untapped island which I see so much potential for wanting to spend more time with family and potential new business ventures.
I love to return to see our family, the experience is simple but being in there presence just warms my heart. The agenda is never too much but hanging out, eating and trying to all communicate like a game of sherades with plenty of Sicilian hand jesters.
Bringing our kids there for the first time was a memory I will never forget, meeting cousins (majority named Salvatore) and showing them the place rich in Arnone history is an experience I will always cherish.
I hope to continue to return as often as possible to keep that relationship alive. I highly recommend to see it, you wont regret it!
Arrivederci!
